Job Summary

GKN Luton sits within the Aerospace Group and is a world leader in the production of transparencies and ice protection systems for both civil and military markets.

Job Responsibilities

This role will take full accountability for all Manufacturing Engineering activity the Value Stream within the IPT structure.  The roles key accountabilities will be:

  • Development of the Manufacturing Engineering Team and alignment of departmental strategy with group & site initiatives. 
  • Examples : Scrap reduction and budget management
  • Zero defects Manufacturing : Implementation, sustainment and training; 
  • Requirements Matrices, Variable Control Matrices, PFMEA (AS13004) , control plans and Practical Problem Solving A3/8D techniques. APQP/PPAP(AS9145)
  • Manufacturing Engineering Governance in IPT led teams.
  • Supporting the GKN Lean Operating Model improvements to manufacturing. 
  • Day to day people management including activities such as training and career development, (Technical Excellence) absence management, performance management, development of PVD system, PDP, recruitment etc.
  • Lead the manufacturing input areas in projects improving Quality & Cost to budgets.
  • Coach structured problem solving and RCCA methodology. (AS13000)
  • Manage capital equipment purchasing and implementation and approval of tooling projects
  • Support equipment reliability/OEE and TPM programmes
  • Engineering/Operational standard work implementation and manage POI of configuration changes.
  • Primary manufacturing engineering contact to the customer (teleconferences/support customer visits)
  • Provide manufacturing technical support on new business bid preparation
  • Support the management of AS9162 “Self verification Systems” across the valuestream 
  • Material review board management and corrective action.
  • There is an opportunity for career advancement into an engineering leadership position.

 

What we will be looking for in you:

Essential

  • You must be able to communicate and lead effectively at all levels within an organisation and be flexible in your approach. 
  • Experience of the full remit of manufacturing engineering.
  • Exposure to Leading Teams (either directly or indirectly) in a challenging high pressure environment.
  • Demonstrable experience of practical problem solving.
  • Experience specifying and purchasing capital equipment.

 

Desirable 

  • A degree or studying in an engineering related discipline.
  • Experience in the application of lean six sigma tools, ideally qualified to green belt or equivalent. 
  • Demonstrable experience in interfacing with customers and managing customer relationships.
  • Demonstrable experience of PFMEA and SPC tools and APQP methodology 
  • Experience in the Aerospace Quality management system and Industry expectations (AS9100)
